This week, I would like to say a big Thank You to Brits Pub in Pasadena, California, for serving the best traditional English fish and chips dinner I've had since I was a kid. Brits was one of my favorite places to eat when I lived in CA, and I was happy to find on this trip that Peter and Elizabeth are still running it and still serving up the most authentic British fare in the US. Accompanied by bottles of Heinz Catsup, HP Sauce, and malt vinegar, I was one happy camper at the dinner table.
For my friends back home, this is what fish and chips is supposed to look like! To put it into perspective, that is a 12 inch platter, and that fillet (which I had already eaten the end off of before I remembered I had my camera with me) is about 9 inches long, 2 inches thick, and 3 inches wide at the fat end. Yum!If anyone who reads this is ever in the Pasadena area, Brits is a must to eat at! Peter is from Liverpool and makes all the traditional favorites. Their motto is "Warm Beer, Lousy Food" (an inside joke only a brit would understand!)

My militant vegetarian sister, "Aunt Veg," lives in Pasadena and when our family is out that way, we're always looking for a place to eat, and your photo is quite enticing...maybe we'll get a chance to check it out on our spring break 2009!
Thanks...
Roxy
P.S. -- I haven't done a Roxy's Best Of...Pasadena yet, but I'll keep Brits in mind when I do.
Oh my goodness! That looks, ummm, good enough to eat! The batter used in restaurants around here has a different texture and flavor than it looks like that one in your picture has. Both are good I am sure.
Wow. The only F&C I've had at a "pub" in LA was in Santa Monica, The King's Head. I was soooo disappointed. Next time I venture up there, I'm going to try Brits.
This looks so good - I love "authentic" fish & chips!
I've nominated you for an "I love your blog" award. Check out my blog to see how it works: http://jaelsjewels.blogspot.com/2008/09/i-love-your-blog-award_25.html
